Nursery Curriculum

At Balgillo Nursery your child’s learning and development is supported by two National documents.

Pre-Birth to Three:

Positive Outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families and The Curriculum for Excellence are used by the staff team to ensure we provide a balanced and broad curriculum.

If your child is aged under three years then the National guidelines Pre-Birth to Three: Positive outcomes for Scotland’s Children and Families are used to inform and support the care and development of your child.

This guidance recognises that critical learning takes place before a child is 3 years old and the experiences of children pre-birth to three can influence the rest of their lives.

Focus is placed on four key principles;Rights of the child...

  • Rights of the Child
  • Relationships
  • Responsive Care
  • and Respect

Within these nine key areas feature. These are;

  • Role of Staff
  • Attachments
  • Transitions
  • Observation
  • Assessment and Planning
  • Partnership Working
  • Health and Wellbeing
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Environment and Play

Our staff carefully plan a range of play activities which build on the individual child's interests, indoors and out, to nurture their growth and development at this crucial time in their lives.

Three to five years:
Your child will transition into the Curriculum for Excellence. This National Curriculum represent’s scotland’s vision for the education of all children aged 3 years to 18 years old. It aims to raise standards, improve knowledge and develop skills for life.

It also states that every child should "Experience a broad education that develops skills for learning, for life, and work with a real focus on literacy and numeracy and which promotes an active and healthy lifestyle." This is something which mirrors our own ethos for Balgillo Nursery.

Our Gallery and News pages show some examples of the curriculum's in practice but if you have any questions about your child’s education and care please speak to a member of our staff team.
